The Federation Of German American Societies consists of twelve organizations
whose shared purpose is to promote German culture in Western New York.
These organizations are vital to the continuation of German heritage and
traditions in the Buffalo-Niagara Region.
Numerous German contributions such as the establishment of the first kindergartens
in the United States, Yule and Christmas tree customs and foods like hamburgers and
hot dogs have become so ubiquitous in American culture that their origins are
often forgotten.
