2024 Buffalo German Fest

Friday, August 30th - 5:30pm - 10:00pm
Saturday, August 31th - 12:00pm - 9:00pm
Cheektowaga Town Park

We invite you this Labor Day weekend to immerse yourself in German Heritage and celebrate Gemütlichkeit! “Gemütlichkeit” is a term that the Germans use to simply mean being in the right place, at the right time, doing the right things, with the right people. That perfectly describes what we are trying to accomplish with our Buffalo German Fest. Consider it the kickoff event to the ever-popular Oktoberfest season! Plus, this festival is the Federation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, with all the proceeds going to help their member organizations, so they can continue to fulfill their individual missions.

Did you know that The Federation of German-American Societies of Buffalo, New York and Vicinity, Inc. was established in 1922? It is a not-for-profit organization, consisting of nine cultural organizations, whose mission is to support, preserve, and perpetuate the German customs, traditions, songs, sports, and language, all while establishing a mutual fellowship. Member organizations include: The Bergholz German Band, The Buffalo-Dortmund Sister City Society, The Buffalo Schwaben Chor, The Concordia Foundation Inc., The German-American Musicians Association (Buffalo’s BIG German Band), S.G.T.V. Edelweiss Buffalo Schuhplattler Dancers, Sport Club Germania, Spring Garden Association and The Steuben Society Samuel Helm Unit 144. The Federation also supports individual organizations and businesses who want to be a part of their mission such as Judi Laird German Design. We would be remised if we didn’t publicly recognize the wonderful support The Buffalo German Club Schlaraffia Bisonia gives to the Federation of Buffalo German-American Societies of Buffalo and vicinity.

The Buffalo German Festival started back in 1982 and was held in Schiller Park, where there was a dense German population. The festival later moved to Cheektowaga Town Park in 1994 and has been held there ever since. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival was not held a few years. The good news is the Buffalo German Fest is back and we plan on celebrating with new and old traditions alike, especially this year, since it marks our 40th celebration!

Where else would you rather be than at Cheektowaga Town Park eating and drinking authentic German beer and cuisine, listening to authentic bands, learning traditional dances, participating in contests and games, and partying for a weekend with nearly 2,000 of your friends and family! Cultural traditions are so very important and it’s our goal to keep them alive. Whether it is food, drink, literature, dance, music, or just fellowship, life is simply better by celebrating the past and the present! We look forward to celebrating with you this Labor Day Weekend!
